Things to Do at the Ash River Trail
Minnesota attractions and events
Experience the Minnesota northwoods like never before! The Ash
River Trail and Voyageurs National Park
offer you and your family and friends a truly "up
north" vacation with all the wilderness activities
like Minnesota houseboating, fishing, waterskiing, canoeing, hiking,
and picnicing. The unique quality and
beauty of our lakes and shoreline will have you coming
back year after year. Our lake system offers easy accessibility
to Lake Kabetogama, Namakan, Rainy Lake, Sand Point
Lake, and Crane Lake.
Ash River is only 7 miles from the Canadian border
waters of Namakan Lake. Just 16 miles and you are at
the historic Kettle Falls Hotel and dam where you actually
look south into Canada, while the waters flow north!
Accessible only by water, boat tours are offered from
June to September. Kettle Falls also offers mechanical
boat portages so you can easily enjoy the east end of
Rainy Lake. Another favorite place to take in some of
the history of the area is the Ellsworth Rock Garden,
located on the north shore of Lake Kabetogama where
you'll find beautiful and creative rock statuaries.
Voyageurs National Park has over 250 well-maintained
campsites to be used by houseboaters, campers, and those
wanting to take advantage of a day on the lake. Hike
the islands, enjoy a shorelunch, swim on a sandy beach,
or pick blueberries. The choice is yours! And if you
are real adventurous the park provides canoes and rowboats
to navigate interior lakes just as the voyageurs did.
Locator Lake, Cruiser Lake, Mica Bay, and Chain of Lakes
are just a few of the trails we recommend.
Enjoy a scenic drive to the Ash River and Kabetogama
Lake visitor centers where the views of the lake are
spectacular and we think you'll find the centers to
be very interesting and informative. They also offer
a marked trail system for hiking.
