Great Northern Minnesota Fishing
Lake Kabetogama, Rainy, Namakan, Sand Point and Crane Lakes
Northern Minnesota fishing from Ash River is second to none. As the central
entrance to Voyageurs National Park, Ash River flows to
Sullivan Bay and on to where Lake Kabetogama and Namakan
Lake meet. You can continue through beautiful Voyageurs
National Park to Sand Point and Crane Lake as well. The
option of Rainy Lake is available by mechanical portage
at historic Kettle Falls.
Northern Minnesota fishing is the #1 past-time for our
summer guests as they fish for Minnesota walleye, northern pike, trophy
crappie, and feisty small mouth bass. In 1998 we implemented
a slot limit on the walleye which has made walleye fishing
fantastic. The current slot limit is 13 – 17 inches
and one over 23 inches with a possession limit of 6 per
person. For the more adventuresome, muskie and lake trout
can be taken from one of the 30 small interior lakes,
accessible only by trails from the main lakes. Contact
Voyageurs National Park to reserve a canoe or rowboat
offered at some of these interior lakes.
Voyageurs National Park has no motor restrictions so boaters
can travel freely through miles of remote, uncrowded,
and scenic pine-studded shorelines. Windy days are no
problem for the Ash River fishermen and women as we have
many bays in which to take advantage of a perfect “walleye
chop”.
